Social Workers’ Day 2009 Dinner held on 31 March 2009 at The Grassroots’ Club was a great success. The event was attended by about 400 social workers, social service practitioners and their friends, guests from MCYS and NCSS and associates of SASW. This is an annual event organized by the Singapore Association of Social Workers (SASW). As it was sponsored by VICOM Ltd, Tote Board and Lee Foundation.
The occasion was officiated by our Guest-of-Honour, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports (CYS) and special guests Mrs Yu-Foo Yee Shoon, Minister of State (MCYS) and Associate Professor Maliki Osman, Parliamentary Secretary (MND).
In line with the theme of the dinner, 9 social workers showed off their talents in paintings, taiji sword performance, magic show, balloon sculpting, books, poetry, photography and emceeing. At the same time, we took the opportunity to invite our Guest-of-Honour to unveil the Social Work Accreditation Board logo. In his speech, the Minister touched on the important contributions of social workers and social service practitioners to society and encouraged them to apply for accreditation and take advantage of the $20,000 grant to upgrade themselves. In his welcome speech, the President of SASW Mr Gilbert Fan urged more social workers and social service practitioners to join SASW as members in order to gain representation and recognition as a professional body.
On 21 October 2015, about 50 people turned up for the Launch of PE Group Program cum Cupcakes Networking Meeting. Many thanks to Rev Canon Ong Chooi Seng for hosting the venue.
On 21 November 2016, Dr Linda Haverkamp presented the painting "GRACE" in memory of Sister Susan Chia to the Good Shepherd Mission for their program in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
